Title

Eyebolt

Description

This is a picture of an eyebolt necklace that I used to wear religiously. Made of out of ordinary hardware, it really does say women, but also "strength without a fist." That was Sheila de Bretteville's intention when she made it originally as a badge for entry to the Women in Design Conference held at the WB in 1975. It was part of her very famous poster: https://collections.otis.edu/u?/wb,105

Later, members of the Feminist Studio Workshop packaged them to sell as an artifact--along with a little insert explaining the concept. http://collections.otis.edu/u?/wb,551
